The Sword Guy video instruction series offers a unique and exciting opportunity to gain certification in the art of Ryuseiken Batto-do. The requirements aren't easy, and the skills needed to pass the final examination come only with hard work and dedication.
However, if you are interested in achieving rank in Ryuseiken Batto-Do through The Sword Guy video instruction series, and perhaps teaching it yourself in your area, the process is as follows:

一 Complete training with all six videos in The Sword Guy video instruction series and practice for one full year. Serial numbers for the videos you purchases will be checked to prevent copyright infringement.
二 Complete a comprehensive test of the Ryuseiken Batto-Do requirements (see NEXT).
三 Submit all necessary paperwork and fees to Arizona Martial Arts Unlimited, LLC.
四 If all steps are completed, a Ryuseiken Batto-Do Shodan (black belt) certificate, a Ryuseiken Batto-Do black belt a membership patch and card will be sent to you (or presented to you in person).

Requirements for Shodan (1st degree black belt):
一 All seven Ryuseiken Kata properly performed both with a partner and without a partner.
二 All basic cuts (Kihon To Ho) done correctly, and a free cutting sequence (Jyu To Ho) performed without significant error (knocking target off of the stand, knocking the stand over, failing to cut etc...).
三 All basic stances (Kamae Waza) demonstrated correctly.
四 All basic blocking techniques (Uke Waza) done correctly with a partner.
五 Example of sparring skills with a partner.
六 Balance, form and using Kiai (focus yell) will be looked for with all Shodan candidates.

﹅ Paperwork, fees and serial numbers of the videos you purchased submitted to Arizona Martial Arts Unlimited, LLC.
﹅ A Black Belt candidate may submit a video of the certification requirements, or have Shihan McGraugh test you in person. Contact for details on having this done. A seminar can be done as well as testing you in person.
﹅ If you choose to certify as an instructor in Ryuseiken Batto-Do through The Sword Guy video instruction series and teach it to others a small fee is required to become an affiliate dojo with the Ryuseiken Batto-Do United States headquarters.
